New Delhi: It seems that now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has no option but to adopt all recommendations of Lodha Committee reforms. In the face of open defiance by the BCCI to adopt Justice Lodha Committee reforms, the Supreme Court yesterday threatened the BCCI's 30-odd member cricket associations to block their funds if they failed to adopt reforms.
The bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur said that it will pass an order to this effect today as it was fed up getting a defiant BCCI to mend its ways. The bench told senior advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for BCCI, "We cannot waste time to reform BCCI. Here are people who refuse to reform despite our orders. If you are willing to give an unconditional undertaking to implement our order and abide by all orders given by Lodha Committee, we are willing to change our mind. If not, then we will pass some interim order."
Sibal submitted to the Court that in the Board meeting of September 30, the new Memorandum failed to get support from the 30 member associations, which defeated its adoption. Sibal said, "BCCI has no control over state cricket associations. We had told them to adopt the new Memorandum. The BCCI does not have a vote as the state associations have a vote.
