Beckhams expecting baby girl in July

British football superstar David Beckham and his former Spice Girl wife Victoria are expecting a baby girl in July, a spokesman said Monday.

The couple announced in January that she was pregnant with their fourth child, but did not give the due date and gender.

Beckham's Los Angeles spokesman Jeff Raymond confirmed press reports that "Goldenballs" -- Victoria's pet name for Beckham -- will get a daughter to go with their three sons Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz.

"Obviously, we're very lucky to be expecting again, and this is the first time I'm going to say it: It's a little girl," Beckham was quoted as saying by British newspapers.

Former England captain David, 35, and pop star-turned fashion designer Victoria, 36, married in 1999 and live in Los Angeles where he plays for LA Galaxy.

Victoria -- known as "Posh Spice" during her days with the Spice Girls -- said recently that she was open to the idea of another child but resigned to the fact that she may never have a daughter.

"Maybe one day another baby, but at this stage I think the chances of a girl are quite slim," she told the February issue of Vogue magazine.

The baby news also comes just months after Beckham filed a lawsuit against a US celebrity weekly that published allegations that he had sexual relations with a prostitute.

Beckham's lawyers said the claims were "completely untrue and totally ridiculous."
