Striker Karim Benzema says Madrid need their fans' support to beat Lyon in tonight's Champions League clash Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema is eagerly anticipating tonight's Champions League match at home against French powerhouse Olympique Lyonnais and has pointed out that los Blancos are only 90 minutes away from reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament.
"Who wants to be on the bench? No one does! I want to play every game, but that's up to (coach Jose) Mourinho to decide. We'll see what happens on D-Day against Olympique Lyonnais," said Benzema to AS.
"We are just 90 minutes away from ending the bad run the team has had in the last 16 and reaching the quarter-finals. I hope there is a large crowd to steer us towards qualifying."
Benzema went on to point out that it won't be easy for Madrid though at Santiago Bernabeu. "Lyon are a very solid side. They know they'll have to attack in order to score, but I know them well and I know they will be well positioned. They will not leave open spaces for us to move in.
"They will attack and also focus on defending. We'll have to look for victory as soon as the ref blows the whistle."
The first leg against Benzema's former club finished 1-1 at Stade Gerland.
