London: Cheteshwar Pujara was delighted after making his first significant contribution in the ‘English Summer' on Wednesday.

The India batsman scored an unbeaten 90 to help Derbyshire complete an eight-wicket win over Surrey at the Oval in a Division Two of County Championships.

After a disappointing county debut against Glamorgan at Cardiff, where he managed only 7 and 0, the Saurashtra batsman was in his element in more batting friendly conditions at the Oval.

Thought process
"I thought about it yesterday when we had to chase 251 and thought this was the perfect time to come forward," Pujara told Derbyshire's official website.

"I was batting really well in the nets, to be honest, it was just that I was not getting a start. When I went in, I was timing the ball well and there wasn't much swing, so I thought if I play my natural game and if the ball is there, I will just go for it.

"Hopefully, now I have picked up the form and will be able to do it in the next match. It was a great team performance and I hope we can now finish the season well next week at Derby."
