Brazil striker Fred came off the bench to rescue a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Paraguay and keep alive the prospect of a place in the quarter-finals of the Copa America.

With Roque Santa Cruz and Nelson Haedo Valdez cancelling out Jadson's opener the five-times world champions, already embarrassed in a goalless draw by Venezuela, were seconds away from sliding to the bottom of their group on goal difference before Fred popped up to snatch a draw with an instinctive right-foot finish.

"That's got to be one of my most important goals ufffd it was important as we were losing and the draw means we can breathe a little more easily," insisted the former Lyon star, nicknamed Fredgol, who now plays for Fluminense.
