National team defender Dennis Marshall was one of two people killed Thursday in a two-vehicle smash in the mountains near San Jose, Costa Rica, the Red Cross reported on Thursday.
Marshall, and a female travelling with him, were killed when their car collided head on with a truck.
Marshall had recently returned to Costa Rica following the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament in the United States.
He scored a goal Saturday in a loss to Honduras. Marshall scored to make it 1-1 in regulation time before his squad lost 4-2 on penalties.
