Former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said yesterday that though it would be difficult to form an external panel to assess the performance of selectors, as implemented by Cricket Australia (CA), transparency is definitely something the Indian cricket board could learn from the Australians.
The CA-backed revolutionary Argus Review, carried out by businessman Don Argus, former ICC boss Malcolm Speed and ex-captains Allan Border, Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor, suggested major changes to the Australian cricket system yesterday.
The panel interviewed over 60 people from within the game and outside on selection, contract structure, coaching and domestic cricket before tabling its publicised report.
Shouldn't the BCCI -- with its tendency to hide player injuries and secretly intervene with selectors' decisions -- maintain such levels of transparency courtesy of an unbiased panel that provides an independent review?
"Definitely! Transparency will be good. In my days, we always amicably approved the selectors' decisions - and never intervened. Everybody is working towards the prosperity of the national team. I would rather suggest an in-house review," Dalmiya said.
