Didn't apply for ICC job, but happy to help: Kunzru

Tarun Kunzru, one of the four candidates, interviewed in Mumbai on Sunday to succeed Haroon Lorgat as CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC), may not have applied for the job but is happy to help, if picked. Kunzru was called for the interview after being identified as a possible candidate by global executive search company, Egon Zehnder.

"I did not apply for the ICC post but was asked about my availability by this executive search company and am honoured to be among the shortlisted candidates. I am keen to grab the opportunity but I'm not thinking too much about it. It will be good if I'm selected, but I won't regret losing out either," Kunzru said from Bangalore yesterday.

The the 55-year-old refused to divulge details of the interview though. "Since the selection procedure is still on, it will not be appropriate for me to comment on the interview as there are only four candidates in the fray (former South African cricketer & ICC's current general manager, Dave Richardson & CEO of the England and Wales Cricket Board, David Collier are being touted as top contenders for the post).

May the best among us get the chance to serve the game," added Kunzru, who has played some cricket in Karnataka and Oman. Speaking of his background, Kunzru said: "I'm very fond of cricket, but wanted to make a career in the corporate world. I've worked with Adidas, Pepsi and Al Khan, a food processing company in Muscat."

Despite having no previous experience whatsoever in sports administration, Kunzru remained positive felt. "Each candidate has plusses and minuses and I'm sure the committee will study the pros and cons of all before making the final call," he said.u00a0Current ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat will be vacating the position after completing his four-year term next month.u00a0
