The former India skipper, who received a standing ovation, said after receiving the award from BCCI interim president and former India teammate Shivlal Yadav: "It feels great to be a part of a great list who have received this award. It is a great honour."
Those early days...
Vengsarkar, who also served as chairman of selectors in 2006 to 2008, recalled his early days in cricket: "I started with Podar College and then started to play with Dadar Union (Sporting Club) where I rubbed shoulders with a lot of stalwarts. It helped me grow faster as a cricketer.
"I went on to play for Mumbai which is a dream for every cricketer. Mumbai has a rich tradition. There too, I got to play with the greats of the game. "The ultimate thing was to play for India. I have enjoyed every innings of my time with the Indian team," signed off Vengsarkar.
The BCCI also recognised Rohit Sharma with a special award for his second double ton in ODIs - a world-record score of 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata recently.
