Rajkot: "They batted brilliantly. They were terrific," said Dinesh Karthik when asked, at the post-match press conference, what went wrong for Gujarat Lions against Kolkata Knight Riders, on Friday, despite scoring 183 batting first.
Karthik, who scored a breezy 47 off 25 balls, but ended up with the losing side, was obviously referring to Chris Lynn (93) and Gautam Gambhir (76), who got to the 184-run target with ridiculous ease - in 14.5 overs and without being separated.
"We thought we had a good chance, after putting up a good total, but Lynn and Gambhir simply took the match away. I thought we probably did not bowl as well as we should have and there were also some lapses in fielding. But full credit to Lynn and Gambhir for batting so well with sustained aggression," he added.
"We wanted to begin the season on a winning note. But nothing is certain in cricket," he said.
