After losing to Messi's Argentina 1-2 in a friendly, portugal skipper Ronaldo says a draw would have been an apt result
Cristiano Ronaldo was satisfied with the way he and Portugal applied themselves in the 2-1 defeat to Argentina in a friendly on Wednesday.
The Real Madrid forward stated for the record that the friendly fixture was not a duel between himself and Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
Messi secured victory for Argentina late in the game from the penalty spot, after Ronaldo had equalised for Portugal in the first half.
"I'm satisfied with the way I played in the match. I was able to excel myself once, but I had other opportunites to score against the Argentines," he told Ole.
"I must say, this game was not a duel between Messi and me. We played for Argentina and Portugal. We are both playing much better now than during the World Cup in South Africa. It was a pity we lost because Argentina were not superior to us. We played well. A draw would have been fair," said the Portuguese.
Lionel Messi got the better of Cristiano Ronaldo in their first international meeting scoring a 90th-minute penalty and the two time world player of the year also provided the assist for Angel di Maria's 14th-minute goal, before Ronaldo levelled scores in the 21st minute.
