India's women cricketers will now receive $125 per day on international tours and the equivalent of $100 during a home series. The decision was taken during the Working Committee of the BCCI in New Delhi yesterday.

It is learnt that the daily allowance was $90 (Rs 6800). When on tour, each woman cricketer will get Rs 8400. Former India captain Diana Edulji expressed mixed feelings. While she welcomed the move, she felt the amount is not enough. "If we compare (the hike) with previous years, the move is appreciated.

But then, it is not sufficient to attract young cricketers. This will benefit only 15 players who are in the team or on tour. Moreover, the amount of international matches the women's team play is even less than what the U-19 men's team feature in so it's not a big incentive. What about those players who miss out on playing for India? If a similar hike is granted on the domestic circuit, I am sure it will be a booster," she remarked.

Edulji, a former India captain, added: "During our playing days, we burnt our pockets when on tours, but now things have changed. Players are getting good accommodation, ground and travel facilities.

"It is the cricketers' turn to respond by performing consistently."
