Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes lauds team's hunger for success after dramatic victory over Real Madrid

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes believes his side did exactly what he had asked of them following theiru00a02-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

Heynckes wanted to see a reaction from his side after they effectively lost the Bundesliga title in their last two games, and he believes he got it. "My players showed what I had demanded from them yesterday: lust and hunger for success," he told Sky television. "I think we more than deserved the win because we played cleverly and intelligently."

Madrid looked to have earned a 1-1 draw from their trip to Germany after Ozil's 53rd-minute goal had cancelled out Franck Ribery's first-half opener for Bayern, but the Bundesliga giants netted a 90th-minute winner through Mario Gomez. That goal will have boosted Bayern's belief that they can progress through to a ‘home' final at their Allianz Arena. Bayern take a one-goal advantage with them to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday.

Ozil: Real will beat Bayern in Madrid

"The 2-1 scoreline is bitter for us but I'm convinced that we will win at home. We believe in the strength that we have and I'm convinced that we will get through to the final," said the Germany international.
