Despite the return to form of Yuvraj Singh, defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad were outwitted by bottom-placed Delhi Daredevils in IPL-10 at the Kotla yesterday.
Riding on Yuvraj's superb 70-run knock, Sunrisers notched up a healthy total. But the young Daredevil turks overshadowed Yuvi's effort to record a desperately-needed victory. For once, the Sunrisers bowlers, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan were not as effective in stopping the rival batsmen from running away with the match.
Though the home team kept losing wickets, in the end they just about romped home with six wickets and five balls to spare. Getting 186 for a win was never going to be easy for Delhi, who are languishing at the bottom of the points table and with their young batsmen having shown more exuberance and promise than runs on the board.
But after Sanju Samson (24), struggling stand-in skipper Karun Nair (39), Rishabh Pant (34) and Shreyas Iyer (33) made useful contributions up front, Corey Anderson (41') and Chris Morris (15') completed the win in a composed manner, much to the delight of their coach Rahul Dravid, who had promised a turnaround even at the late stage in the tournament. "This was two-paced (pitch). Delhi have the best bowling attack in the IPL. You have to be smart, you can't smash every ball. I just waited for the loose ball," Yuvi said about his innings.
