India, replying to Australia's first innings total of 478, were all out for 495 just before lunch on the fourth day of the second and final cricket Test on Tuesday.
Sachin Tendulkar scored 214, his sixth double-century, before the last five wickets fell for nine runs.
Tendulkar reached the milestone within half an hour of the commencement of play Wednesday morning.
This is Tendulkar's second double century against Australia.
