Suryakumar Yadav joined Jay Bista in the list of centurions for Mumbai who rode on the duo's tons to notch up an imposing first-innings score of 603 against Rest of India in the Irani Cup game on Monday

A splendid century by Suryakumar Yadav (156) and two patient half centuries from skipper Aditya Tare (65) and Siddhesh Lad (66) helped Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai score a mammoth 603 against Rest of India (ROI) on Day Two of Irani Cup at Brabourne Stadium yesterday. Rest of India were 36-1 at stumps.

Yadav and Tare, who were unbeaten on 88 and 38 respectively on Sunday, added another 48 runs to put 162 runs for the fourth wicket. Yadav, who scored a lot of runs with his favourite straight drives, reached his fourth century of the season after taking a single off medium-pacer Stuart Binny.

Just as he crossed 150, the attacking Mumbai batsman was beaten in the flight and offered a return catch to off-spinner Jayant Yadav.

'Season's best knock'
"This is my best knock of the season, considering I took the team to a comfortable position. There was no pressure on me, but there was some responsibility on my shoulders. After Shreyas' (Iyer) dismissal, I thought that someone should drop anchor and stay at the crease," said 25-year-old Yadav. Tare reached his half-century with a well timed boundary through the covers.

Fifties for Tare, Lad
However, the Mumbai skipper failed to negotiate medium pacer Krishna Das' away going delivery well and Rest of India's skipper Naman Ojha managed to take a one-handed catch to his right side.

Tare scored nine boundaries during his 65. Lad, who played a match-winning knock (88) in the Ranji Trophy final last week, played a sensible innings but the three-figure mark still eluded him.

Dropped on 36 by substitute fielder Shahbaz Nadeem at point when he cut one from Das, Lad managed to score 66 with eight boundaries. For ROI, off-spinner Jayant Yadav was the most successful bowler, claiming four wickets for just 132 runs in 41.2 overs.

Brief scores
Mumbai 603 (S Yadav 156, J Bista 104; J Yadav 4-132, J Unadkat 2-128) lead ROI 36-1 (F Fazal 18', S Bharat 16; A Nayar 1-4) by 567 runs
