Lanky off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, handpicked as one of India's three spinners for the forthcoming World Cup, was over the moon yesterday. Ashwin, who made optimum use of every opportunity in his short international career, will join Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla in India's 15-man squad.
"This is a dream come true," Ashwin told MiD DAY minutes after completing a practice session here at Newlands.u00a0
"I am really grateful to the selectors, my captain, and everyone who have put their faith in me. Playing the World Cup is a dream of every cricketer. Even if I don't get to play a game, just to be a part of the squad, gives me satisfaction," he said before rushing to the dressing room.
In seven one-dayers, Ashwin has taken 14 wickets at an impressive 23 runs per scalp. What's more impressive is his economy rate of 4.92 ufffd a rarity in the modern day game.
Earlier in the day, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni backed Ashwin's selection, saying his Chennai Super Kings teammate deserved the call-up.
