Ever since Jacques Kallis took everyone by surprise by announcing his retirement from Test cricket during the ongoing series against India, most cricketing conversations have revolved around him

Kallis led the South Africans on to the field yesterday and waved to the crowd. Apart from this gesture, there was little to suggest that one of cricket's all-time greats was featuring in his last Test.

Former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri, who is here as a commentator, said: "The workload he has sustained is unbelievable. To put it straight, he is a sum total of Rahul Dravid (13,288 Test runs) and Zaheer Khan (300 Test wickets).

" By saying this, Shastri was alluding to the fact that Kallis had already scored 13,174 Test runs and taken 292 wickets prior to this game. According to Shastri, Wasim Akram was the best cricketer in the world between 1991 and 2000, and Kallis took over between 2001 and 2010.
