The six players, who were sent a show cause notice to explain the pub incident in St Lucia after their exit from the World twenty20 in the Caribbean, have replied within the stipulated time that lapsed yesterday.

Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma and Piyush Chawla were involved in an altercation with fans, who taunted the players for their poor performances.

While it is believed that all the players have apologised for the incident, several, including Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma, have also said that they were not directly involved in the incident. This is exactly what Jadeja wrote in his reply to Board secretary N Srinivasan, a copy of which is with MiD DAY:

"I beg to inform you that I had gone to the restaurant (pub) for dinner along with other Indian team members.

Some other guests which I presume were Indian origins of USA also come to the restaurant, and on seeing us they started abusing us, this may be because they were unhappy with our poor performance. We requested them not to abuse us but they did not stop inspite of our repeated requests. No way I was involved in any ugly brawl and I went to the pub only to have dinner with my teammates."

Mumbai lad Sharma too said he was not part of the altercation and was having dinner at the other end of the pub.
