An acrimonious incident marred the Indian Premier League proceedings in Kolkata here yesterday when the Kolkata Knight Riders team bus was pelted with stones on their way to Eden Gardens for their clash against MI.
The team bus, which left from the ITC Sonar hotel, was attacked at Park Circus by a mob.
People threw stones at the bus and a glass was cracked.
Kolkata police's Sanjeev- convoy pilot confirmed the incident to MiD DAY. "There were easily around 200 people gathered and suddenly a few of them started throwing stones at the bus. Luckily, we all escaped unhurt. There is no injury to any players as well," he said.
The mob was cleared after police intervened. KKR's team director, Joy Bhattacharya could not be reached for a comment.
Eden full for first time in IPL
The atmosphere at Eden Gardens was electrifying as the venue received its first full house for an Indian Premier Leagueu00a0 (IPL) match. Sixty nine thousand people witnessed the Mumbai Indians versus KKR match yesterday.
"This is the first time we have received full house in this season and also in the history of IPL. It is an absolute joy to see such a large turnout here," Cricket Association of Bengal's joint secretary Biswarup Dey told MiD DAY.
The KKR versus Chennai Super Kings match managed to attract 50,000 in IPL IV here.
MI arrive early
Mumbai Indians were desperate to get some practice before their clash against KKR after torrential rain forced them to stay indoors on Saturday. However, Sachin Tendulkar and Co arrived at Eden Gardens at 4.30 pm - three and half hours before the match started. They practiced for two hours before heading to the dressing room to cool their heels.
