Vijay was punished for breaching Level 1 of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Code of Conduct during day three of the match on Saturday.
Vijay was given out caught behind off the last ball of the fifth over from pacer Morne Morkel. Vijay showed dissent at the decision by pointing at his arm guard as he walked off.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Bruce Oxenford, and third umpire CK Nandan after which match referee Jeff Crowe decided the quantum of punishment.
