French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova was knocked out of the Pan Pacific Open today, losing to German Andrea Petkovic.
The Russian fifth seed, who received a first-round bye with the other top seven players, suffered a 5-7, 6-4, 3-6 defeat to the 58th-ranked Petkovic in the second round.
Kuznetsova joined world number one Dinara Safina of Russia, who failed to defend the singles title by losing to qualifier Chang Kai-chen of Taiwan 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 5-7 earlier in the day.
