The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) yesterday decided to defer the appointment of the senior team coach which fell vacant after Sulakshan Kulkarni was replaced in the middle of the season.
"The Managing Committee felt that all those who have applied for the job should be called to know their viewpoints before arriving at a final decision.
"We will call them in a couple of days to have a discussion and then decide on the right candidate by Monday (April 14)," said Dr PV Shetty, MCA's joint honorary secretary.
Former India pacer and Mumbai's Ranji Trophy-winning captain Ajit Agarkar, who is the frontrunner for the job met some MCA office-bearers before the Managing Committee meeting commenced, it is learnt.
Other prominent candidates in the fray - Sairaj Bahutule, Balvinder Singh Sandhu, Rahul Mankad and Paras Mhambrey - will be called to give a presentation later this week.
