Micah Richards was yesterday questioned by police in relation to an incident of assault that occurred over Christmas in Hale, Manchester, outside a nightclub.
"The man was arrested on suspicion of Section 47 assault," Greater Manchester Police said earlier in a statement which referred to the specific part of the Offences Against the Person Act used to make the arrest.
Richards was reported as attending an 'appointment' at a police station on Wednesday, and then helping the police with their enquiries.
According to Goal.com, the player's official website has released a statement in which Richards acknowledges his involvement with the police, but also highlights his belief that he is innocent, as well as confirming that Manchester City are giving him their full backing.
Full co-operation
"We can confirm that Micah Richards has fully co-operated with police as they continue their investigations, and attended a police station on Wednesday for what was a pre-arranged appointment," the statement reads.
"Micah has the full support of Manchester City Football Club, and will continue to assist police with their enquiries as and when required.
"We would like to take this opportunity to point out that Micah has not been charged with any offence, and he vigorously denies any wrongdoing."
