There was also a substitute appearance from Carlos Tevez, the unsettled Argentine striker who hopes to leave City before the transfer window shuts on August 31.
Mancini gave a first start to Sergio Aguero, the club's record ufffd38 million signing from Atletico Madrid, after the Argentina forward's two-goal cameo appearance against Swansea on Monday.
Mancini said: "We played very well," he said. "But we suffered until the last second because Bolton are a good team who will always try to score.
"We can't concede two goals like today. We need to pay more attention. If we want a good championship we should pay more attention in these sorts of situations.
"I want us to score 15 goals more than last year but we can't concede more goals than last year." Bolton drilled two goals through City's defence that looked vulnerable at times, through strikes fromu00a0 Ivan Klasnic and Kevin Davies.
