Sushant Marathe (102) scored a brilliant century to help 39-time champions Mumbai reach 203 for three in their Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh yesterday. The opener added 189 runs for the opening wicket with Kaustubh Pawar (76).

Marathe was in aggressive mood from the very beginning and took 163 balls for hundred which included 15 hits to the fence. While Pawar's innings was a patient one off 191 balls with 10 boundaries.
Opting to bat, Mumbai made a good start, but lost three quick wickets in the space of 14 runs. From 189 for no loss, The Wasim Jaffer-led side were 203 for three at the close of first day's play.
For Uttar Pradesh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed 2-64 while Piyush Chawla grabbed the other one. At close, night watchman Dhawal Kulkarni (2) and Mumbai captain Wasim Jafar (0) were at the crease.
