Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will conduct the inaugural Mumbai Premier League (MPL) in the first week of January next year

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will conduct the inaugural Mumbai Premier League (MPL) in the first week of January next year. MCA's managing committee took a final call on organising the T20 tournament after receiving proposals from four firms to run the six-team league. "Four interested firms were invited today for their final offer and IIFL Group/Associates and Wizcraft presented a proposal of R16 crore for five years to run this league. It is a very good offer and there was a vast financial difference as compared to the other proposals. Hence, we decided to go with them [IIFL Group/Associates and Wizcraft]," said MCA sources.

The January 4-9 MPL will be a big opportunity for Mumbai players to impress IPL franchises before the Players auction for the 11th edition of the glamourous league in April. However, stars Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane will miss the event as they will be on national duty in South Africa. Meanwhile, MCA's managing committee accepted the recommendation made by the disciplinary committee on Monday about the three-match suspension for Mumbai U-19 captain Agni Chopra, who allegedly abused the team coach and selectors while conversing with his teammates.
