The two clubs go head-to-head with United in need of a win after losing to Chelsea in midweek. In the wake of the game at Stamford Bridge, Ferguson was charged with improper conduct following comments about match referee Martin Atkinson and the veteran manager has since refused to talk to the media, including the club's own television channel.

Dalglish, meanwhile, has been open with the press and insists that any of Ferguson's famous mind games will fall on deaf ears at Anfield. The 60-year-old manager told reporters: "He has used psychology before in the pre-amble to matches. But he will only get sparring practice if he tries to use it on ourselves. We've both been a long time out of short trousers. It will have to be a good one to catch us out."

"He's always dropped a letter of congratulations when you win something, always done that. But after Blackburn won the league he couldn't resist a PS. It said something about Devon Loch, but I wasn't a fisherman so I didn't know where that was.

"Maybe he's glad I'm back to renew our rivalry because we're Glaswegian I don't know whether he is happy I'm back or not, really. I'm just happy I'm back. "If he is unhappy about it, that's not my problem."u00a0
