Karachi: Discarded batsman Faisal Iqbal has been banned for four matches by the Pakistan Cricket Board for showing indiscipline during the Pentangular Cup one-day tournament held here earlier this year.
Faisal, 33, who has played 26 Tests and 18 ODIs, will miss the upcoming national super eights T20 event in Faisalabad as a result of the ban effective immediately. "Faisal has been banned on recommendation of the disciplinary committee which investigated an incident where he walked out of the Karachi dressing room and returned home from the national stadium during the Pentangular after he was dropped for a match by coach Tauseef Ahmed," one board official said.
Faisal was upset and angry at being informed late by coach Tauseef that he was not playing in the Pentangular Cup match for Karachi.
"He left the dressing room in a huff after arguing with the coach," the official said. Faisal, who appeared before the disciplinary committee, has reportedly said he had apologised to Tauseef immediately
for his behaviour.
The board official said the four match ban was also imposed as Faisal appeared on a television channel and spoke on the incident without the board's permission. Faisal is the nephew of former Pakistan captain and coach, Javed Miandad, who remains the country's highest run getter in Tests.
