Karachi: The fitness woes of Pakistan cricket team continue to grow as fast bowler Sohail Khan has been diagnosed with stress fracture of the back.
Chief selector, Haroon Rasheed said the medical panel of the Pakistan Cricket Board was going to carry out further tests but at the moment it looked like Khan had developed a stress fracture of the back.
"It is not a good situation for him," Rasheed said. Sohail Khan who made an impact in the World Cup was ruled out of the following tour to Bangladesh in April due to a back problem.
He has not played any competitive cricket since then. According to a reliable PCB source the national selectors were unhappy with the fast bowler for not following the advice of the medical panel.
"What has upset them is that he was told to report for rehab sessions to the PCB physio and trainer in Karachi but he didn¿t do this regularly and instead opted for some local treatment.
Worse he went and played a club match which has accentuated his back problem and led to the stress fracture," the source said.
Rasheed confirmed that they had reports he had played a match against advice of the medical panel. "He has been told to report to the national cricket academy now," the chief selector said.
He said the news about unfit players Wahab Riaz, Haris Sohail and Sohaib Maqsood was good and they would most likely be considered for the two T20 matches against Sri Lanka when the selectors sit down later this week.
