Pollard, who came into the World Cup with the reputation of an under-performer at the international level, has already made an impact with two explosive half-centuries. Yesterday, he urged his teammates to win the coveted title to inspire a new generation of youngsters.

"We were totally written off earlier because of the debacle at home matches, but now we are hoping to win it (the World Cup)," Pollard said.

"It's important for us to do well so we can help in getting the youngsters in the Caribbean to love cricket again. This should be a stepping stone for us, and a way for us to test ourselves - to see if we have the talent to compete in the world and beat the top teams."

The West Indies are to play England tomorrow and India on Sunday - that's two big games in the space of five days ufffd here at Chepauk.
