Riding on Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 191, Mumbai made a strong reply 328-6 to Gujarat's 437 in their Ranji Trophy Group A encounter in Hubli yesterday.

At stumps on the third and penultimate day, Mumbai trailed Gujarat by 109 runs with four wickets remaining in the first innings.

It was Iyer's first century of the season. While talking to mid-day from Hubli, he said: "A big score was long due. Such a knock coming this time is really important for me and for my team as well because we needed to bat whole day."

Resuming on 58-3 with Iyer batting on 27, Mumbai had to rely on the 22-year-old right-handed batsman, who played through the day, to take his team to safety. The other overnight batsman, Dhawal Kulkarni, contributed 61 while adding 187 runs for the fourth wicket with Iyer, who decorated his 310-ball innings with 18 boundaries and two sixes.

Iyer is just nine runs away from 200. However, he is not thinking much about it. "I am not thinking about a double century. I want to bat session by session and then every thing will follow," he said.
