Many may not be aware that Ricky Ponting, the highest runs-scorer at the Adelaide Oval, used to fix seats at the members' stand with nuts and bolts at the age of 15 when he was at the Australian Cricket Academy here.
But, more than celebrating his 221 against India here yesterday, Ponting expressed his disappointment to see the old members' stand demolished to build the new stand, "I am basically sad to see all those coloured seats go out of the members' stand because when I was at the academy, I changed every nut and bolt on those seats as that was my job for a year.
I am sad to see those (seats) go. But, it looks like it (Adelaide Oval) is now going to turn into a fantastic stadium," said Ponting.
Ponting, has scored 1,663 runs here at an average of 61.59. His 242 in 2003-04 against India is the highest individual score at the Adelaide Oval.
Fact: Ponting's 242 at the Adelaide Oval in 2003-04 is the highest individual score in the Test history for a losing cause
