Married footballer Rio Ferdinand has told the London court that he suffered 'catcalls' in the street after a tabloid ran a story about his romps with a girl.

He revealed how yobs shouted taunts such as, 'where's your new bird?' after Carly Storey spilled the beans over her relationship with the 32-year-old Man-U star.

Ferdinand is seeking cash damages from the Sunday Mirror for "breaching his privacy" over a two-page story that read "Rio's Dirty Secret."

On being quizzed over the articles about his other lovers, the footballer strongly defended himself.

"I was extremely upset to read the story - I view it as a gross invasion of my privacy and extremely damaging to my private life," the Sun quoted the player as telling the High Court in London

"People started shouting things out at me in the street," he added.

He told the court how "angry and upset" he was when a kiss-and-tell, for which Carly was paid 16,000 pounds appeared last year.
