England striker Wayne Rooney today arrived at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, to beg in person for his three-match Euro 2012 ban to be cut.
Rooney stayed in Switzerland last night after Manchester United's Champions League match against Basel, the Daily Mail reports. u00a0
The Football Association (FA) has also assembled a four-strong team of lawyers in the hope of persuading UEFA's disciplinary body to reduce the ban Rooney received for his red card in Montenegro in October.u00a0
The FA will argue that the punishment for Rooney's dismissal for kicking Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic is too harsh.u00a0
If the ban is upheld, the striker will miss all three of England's group games.
There is no risk of the ban being increased on account of frivolous appeal.u00a0
