Smarting from the series defeat, Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara blamed his bowlers for failing to defend a 300-plus total in the fourth ODI against India on Thursday.

Smarting from the series defeat, Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara blamed his bowlers for failing to defend a 300-plus total in the fourth ODI against India on Thursday.

According to him, had his bowlers been able to maintain their line and length, the Lankans would not have lost the match which also resulted in their series defeat with one game to go.

"I thought 315 was a fighting total. Upul Tharanga batted well. He provided the acceleration to the innings. But we lost despite getting two early wickets," Sangakkara rued.

"The key for the bowlers is to maintain the line and length in such situations and we failed," he said.

"Still, (Chanaka) Welegedara, (Suraj) Randiv and (Suranga) Lakmal have been the best bowlers for us in this series," he added.

Sangakkara also felt that injury and inexperience also proved costly for the side.

"It's always tough when you have constant changes in the team because of injuries. I would definitely like to go out in full bowling and batting strengths," he said.

"We lost a few our experienced guys on this tour but after the youngsters' performance they have to take a look at themselves. If you look at our attack, our best bowlers have been debutants," Sangakkara said.
