Russian tenth seed Nadia Petrova ended Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza's run at the Australian Open this morning.
Mirza, the World No 108, went down in straight sets, 3-6, 2-6 in the second round encounter that lasted 70 minutes.
Petrova broke the Indian as early as Game Four in the first set and then held on confidently right through.
The Indian who returned to the tennis courts after a four-month injury lay-off did impress but only in parts. A host of unforced errors cost Mirza the match even as the Russian looked the better of the two at the outset.
Mirza had earlier beaten World No 61 Poland's Marta Domachowska 6-1, 6-4
in the first Round of the tournament.
