Former Mumbai and India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar this morning recalled his late father Vijay, who also represented the country with distinction, on his 86th birth anniversary

Former Mumbai and India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar this morning recalled his late father Vijay, who also represented the country with distinction, on his 86th birth anniversary.

Cricketopia, a social media platform promoting special features from the sport, posted this message on Twitter today: "Birth of a Master Technician Today in 1931, Vijay Manjrekar was born, 55 Tests (3208 Runs & 7 100s) & his son Sanjay also played for India."

Sanjay, 52, a TV commentator and pundit of the game, retweeted the message and added: "Cricket was his life. But he kept telling me not to do the same. Play it as a game, nothing more."

Manjrekar Sr also played 198 first-class games scoring 38 hundreds at an average of 49.9 runs. He however, died early, at the age of 52, in 1983 -- four years before his son made his Test debut for India.
