The Express Tribune quoted Afridi, as saying that he was approached by the ECP to participate in the campaign.
He said he agreed immediately as it is a national cause and he feels it is his duty to give a helping hand to the ECP, which is working hard for free and fair elections.
The cricketer will be seen in video messages by the ECP in which he will urge people not to lose the chance to vote, while emphasising on the importance of voting. The development came a day after speculations emerged of Afridi joining the Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) after he met with party chief, Nawaz Sharif.
Afridi, however, had refuted the reports saying that he had only gone to mourn the death of Sharif''s brother and has no intentions of joining politics.
Last year, Afridi was appointed as a "polio champion" to act as the face of the anti-polio campaign to end the crippling disease in the country.
