Spica Elastic narrowly edged out Credit Suisse-1 by 106-104 to win the Western Zone qualifier of the TAKE Solutions World Corporate Golf Challenge India, which was played at the Aamby Valley Golf Resort over the weekend.
Forty corporate four-member teams competed for four spots in the semi-finals, to be held on Friday, March 6 at the same venue.
The Spica Elastic team, represented by Manish Jaitha, Manisha Jaitha, Murad Palamkote and Farookh Mody took top honours as the team total of the best three scores was 106 points. Credit Suisse 1, comprising Puneet Matta, Shivas Nath, Nohar Nath and Rishi Bali scored 104 points.
The TAKE Solutions World Corporate Golf Challenge, organised by Rishi Narain Golf Management, is the official qualifying tournament for the World Championship of Corporate Golf, now in its 13th year, which brings together corporate teams from 30 different countries who win their national qualifying tournaments.
In 2008, the Indian team from Credit Suisse became the first and only Indian team to emerge victorious at the World Finals held at the famed La Manga Club in Spain, putting India on the world corporate golf map.
In India there were three qualifiers, South (23-25th January, Eagleton Golf Resort, Bangalore), North (6u20138th February, Jaypee Greens Golf Resort) and West (28 Februaryu20131st March, Aamby Valley, Lonavala).
The top two teams from each region will meet in the National Final at Amby Valley on March 7 and the World Final is to be played at La Manga, Spain from June 29 to July 3, 2009.
