Sri Lanka then collected a prize scalp shortly before the close when England captain Andrew Strauss edged Suranga Lakmal, who might not have been playing but for injuries to seamers Dilhara Fernando and Nuwan Pradeep, to Mahela Jayawardene at slip for 20.
