Fast bowling coach Anusha Samaranayake has been a regular with the Sri Lanka team for some time. He missed the ill-fated tour of Pakistan because of his commitment in provincial cricket for the Colombo South team, and he is thanking his stars for that.
"It is my fate that I did not go on this tour. I am lucky," Samaranayake told MiD DAY over the phone from Colombo.
It's natural that he is disturbed at the fate which has befallen his boys in Pakistan.
"I am flabbergasted at what happened in Lahore yesterday morning. Everyone here is stunned. I called up (Chaminda) Vaas in the morning and he could not even talk. I have been touch with the wives of the players and they are all crying and inconsolable.
"I just spoke to Thilan Samarweera's wife and she is still crying. He is hurt badly in the thigh and I have been told that he will be operated immediately when he reaches Colombo. It is so sad, poor Kumar Sangakkara's wife's is expecting a child," revealed Samaranayake.
