Pakistan's batting, looking unconvincing, was propped up by a 49-ball 70 by the experienced Mohammad Hafeez. The former Kolkata Knight Riders allrounder's unbeaten knock had nine boundaries and a six.

Opener Dinesh Chandimal, one-drop Lahiru Thirimanne and No 4 Chamara Kapugedara had raised visions of victory for Sri Lanka after the early loss of Tillakaratne Dilshan, but the chase fell apart as left-arm spinner Imad butted in with wickets at regular intervals.

Chandimal scored a 21-ball 39, Thirimanne a 37-ball 45 while Kapugedera chipped in with a 14 off 11 as the second and third wickets fetched 37 runs each at brisk pace. It was, however, Imad's figures of 4-0-25-4 that gave the telling message.

Brief scores: Pakistan 157/5 in 20 overs ( Mohammad Hafeez 70 n.o.; Thisara Perera 2/21) vs Sri Lanka 142/9 in 20 overs (Lahiru Thirimanne 45; Imad Wasim 4/45)
