Shane Warne's team began with a bang, winning their first two games, but seemed to have gone off the boil with three losses and a wash-out in the next four.
But the legendary Australian, who has been joined by actress Liz Hurley in the desert city, sounded upbeat about the inaugural IPL champions's chances today.
"Thanks for continued support guys ... we have had some good, honest chats and just finished our best practice session of IPL 4. We're ready," Warne wrote on Twitter on the eve of the match.
While the bowling has lacked firepower, Royals' batting has been inconsistent at best. The crisis seems to stem from the fact that the marquee names - Shane Watson, Rahul Dravid, Ross Taylor, etc - have not made an impact yet.
The immediate worry, however, for the host is the fitness of Johan Botha, whose availability was yet to be confirmed.
Kochi have had no such worries. Led by Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene, they have upstaged the Big Three this season - Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
