West Indies' batsman Shai Hope, who posted his highest Test score of 90 in the recently-concluded Bridgetown Test against Pakistan earlier this week, had promised fast bowler-turned-commentator Ian Bishop something special even before the first ball was bowled at Barbados.
Bishop revealed during commentary on Day Four of the game that he had bumped into Hope at the airport in Barbados and wished him luck. Hope in response told Bishop, "I will give you something special." Bishop would have been thrilled to witness a hundred from the No. 4 batsman, but Hope fell 10 short. However, the 90 was significant. Bishop said that he admired Hope's qualities as a human being and a cricketer. A regular visitor to the gymnasium in the players' hotel, Bishop said he would invariably see Hope (23) with or without the West Indies trainer each time he went for a workout. An attitude like Hope's sure augers well for West Indies cricket.
