The other number, non-number actually, that was on some lips was the one that wasn't printed on Sehwag's India jersey.
Most sportspersons are superstitious and the world's most destructive opening batsman is no exception.
Sehwag, a firm believer of numerology, normally wears '00' on his jersey because his lucky number turns out to be zero. But the Delhi batsman seems to have gone one step ahead and done away with the number completely for this World Cup. The strange aspect of Sehwag's jersey has not gone unnoticed by the match officials, who spoke to the Indian team management about it during the tournament opener on Saturday.
"The match officials spoke to the Indian team management regarding Sehwag's jersey number. I don't know whether it (the number) is recorded or not, the match referee did speak to the Indian manager on this issue," ICC spokesperson Colin Gibson told MiD DAY. Interestingly, the ICC's team list doesn't show any number against Sehwag's name.
Team manager Ranjib Biswal offered no comments.
