West Indies captain Chris Gayle won the toss and elected to field in the first Test against England at Lord's today.
England gave debuts to pace bowlers Graham Onions and Tim Bresnan in what was the opening match of a two-Test series.
Monty Panesar was left out from England's 12-man squad with Graeme Swann chosen as the side's lone specialist spin bowler.
West Indies, who earlier this year beat England 1-0 in a Test series in the Caribbean, opted for Devon Smith to open alongside Gayle after several top order batsmen had struggled in warm-up matches.
The last six Tests at Lord's have all ended in draws.
