Shahid Afridi is yet to conquer the Indian cricket team. But yesterday, he conquered the Indian media with his wit and sense of humour.

"Why, didn't you like it," countered a poker-faced Pakistani captain when asked about the idea behind not training on the eve of the match.

"Some time we need to rest," he added. "Average badane ke liye he match hai," Afridi twisted it out of context when pointed out that the average age of his team was young.

On a more serious note, he said: "I am cricketer first, then a diplomat. No doubt I am an ambassador for my country. I am very happy to be here."

There were the regular bits about the rivalry between the two teams. "Playing in India against India is the biggest challenge of my captaincy. No doubt about that," he said.

"India's batting is very strong. Our bowlers have done very well in this World Cup. But it's our batsmen who are going to fight against India.

"It's going to be a high-voltage match. Whoever handles the pressure well will come on top."
