Mumbai Indians (MI) speedster Trent Boult, who took 3-28 in their 13-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Chennai on Saturday, has lavished praise on pace partner Jasprit Bumrah (4-0-14-1) for his knack of bowling accurately in the death overs.
SRH, who were chasing MI's 150-5, needed 31 off the last for overs but Bumrah gave away just four runs in the 17th over. He then dismissed Vijay Shankar (28) in the 19th over. With SRH then needing 16 off the final over, Boult bowled two perfect yorkers to dismiss Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1) and Khaleel Ahmed (1).
"It's great to see a guy like that operate and be so clear with what he's doing with the ball throughout the whole spell. But I believe he is one of the best bowlers in the death overs. He makes my job a lot easier but it's nice to be on the right side of those situations and hopefully, we can get a bit of momentum in the tournament," Boult said at the post-match virtual press conference on Saturday night.
The other contributors to MI's victory were leg-spinner Rahul Chahar (3-19) and Hardik Pandya, who affected two run outs with direct hits to send back SRH skipper David Warner (36 in 34 balls, 2x4, 2x6) and Abdul Samad (7). Boult felt it was MI's teamwork that was paying rich dividends. "It's hard to pin-point one performance. A lot of credit must go to the whole side for hanging in there. We knew we were a few runs short of the par score. But we also knew that this is a pitch where you can fight. And if you get a couple of wickets, you can really get back in the chase. I thought a couple of direct hits from Hardik and the three wickets from Rahul were equally important. And then Bumrah there, bowling his four overs for only 14 was pretty amazing," added Boult.
