Former India batsman, coach and chief selector Sandeep Patil has slammed the "resting" policy of the Indian cricket team and pointed to the amount of cricket his generation of cricketers played without such breaks.

"All the top players in India figured in so many tournaments apart from domestic competitions and this business of resting players was non-existent. In Mumbai, all of us including the great Sunil Gavaskar played the Times Shield, sometimes in between scheduled Ranji Trophy games. Kapil Dev too played so much domestic cricket.

"Here, the current players don't play domestic cricket so I don't understand this resting business," said Patil.

The 1983 World Cupper couldn't comprehend why an in-form player like Rohit Sharma was rested for the first two T20 internationals against England. "Rohit had a wonderful Test series against England so why would you give a player like him rest is beyond me. Rhythm is an important part of this game and such things give rhythm a poor name," concluded Patil.
